Earlier this month, Ninetology launched its new smartphone that’s aiming at the mid-range market, the U9R1. We’ve known Ninetology for its MediaTek Android phones, but this one right here, packs a quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 processor. The graphics department is handled by Adreno 203; it has a 1 GB LPDDR2 RAM and 4 GB ROM. The memory can be expanded by microSD cards of up to 32 GB.

Like all U9 smartphones, it has a striking design that’s at 7.8 mm thin. The IPS display measures 4.3 inches and though its 960 x 540 resolution is nothing to write home about, it has a decent 170-degree viewing angle.

One of its appeal is the dual-SIM support, however its HSPA+ speed is rather slow at a theoretical max of just 7.5 Mbps. It does have your usual Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS and other sensors.

The front-facing camera’s resolution is relatively high at 2 MP, and the rear-facing one is 8 MP. This main camera could only take 720p videos at 15 frames per second.

Powering the device is a 1,600 mAh battery with a reported talk time of 8 hours. The phone comes preinstalled with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Snapdragon’s Battery Guru; the latter is a battery management app by the chip maker itself.

Ninetology U9R1 is available at Ninetology Flagship Touch Point in Low Yat Plaza, and other retail partners, for the low price of RM799. The company has this Smart Ecology 2 program that’s in partnership with the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), where you could trade-in your old phone to get up to RM200.
