Youth Communication Package registration reopens

Youth Communication Package

Youth Communication Package (Pakej Komunikasi Belia) kicked off on January 1st 2013 to offer a RM200 one-off rebate to eligible youths for the purchase of a 3G smartphone. The offer is open for applicants between ages 21 to 30, with a monthly income of below RM3,000.

The government has allocated RM3,000,000 for the 1.5 million eligible youths, each getting a RM200 rebate. The initiative ended early last month after having reached the limit.

However, as of today, September 3rd, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC/SKMM) is reopening registrations, after having removed qualified registrants who did not claim the rebates within the given time. Those who had it forfeited before could re-register again.

To avoid this from happening again, eligible registrants have to claim the rebate within two weeks before they’re forfeited again. The offer will only end once the allocated RM3,000,000 in rebates are used up.

Unfortunately, MCMC did not disclose how many slots are left. Also this time around, registration can only be made through authorized resellers that were pre-picked by our carriers. We also do not have the list of the said resellers at this point.

Reuben Thum's love for technology dates as far back as the Sega Master System era when people are still rocking out on an 8-bit "Dixie's Land" chiptune. His gig as a bartender later did not douse his interest for tech one bit, as he then dedicated a few years of his life assisting users to achieve the same love, deep in the bowels of the tech support world. Currently, he just feels weirded out writing about himself from a third person's perspective.
